Seminar on Nasha Mukat Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) by Govt.Polytechnic College Kishtwar
The Nasha Mukat Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) is a national campaign launched by the Government of India with the goal of eradicating drug abuse and promoting a drug-free society. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse, particularly among the youth, and encourage healthier lifestyles. Through various programs, rallies, and awareness sessions, NMBA educates the public on the dangers of drugs and promotes rehabilitation and prevention strategies.
The "Nasha Mukat Bharat Abhiyan" event, held by the Government Polytechnic College Kishtwar, was a significant occasion to support this mission. Over 100 students participated, and many of them spoke about the harmful effects of drug abuse on society. The event also included valuable insights from faculty members, who emphasized the importance of preventing drug addiction and its devastating impact on the youth.
To prevent drug addiction in the youth of Kishtwar district, several remedial measures can be adopted:
1. Awareness Campaigns:- Regular awareness programs in schools and colleges to educate students about the dangers of drugs.
2. Sports and Physical Activities:- Encouraging students to engage in sports like cricket, football, and volleyball can keep them active and distracted from harmful habits.
3. Counselling and Support Groups:- Establishing counselling centers for students and providing access to professional help can guide those who may be struggling.
4. Community Engagement:-Engaging the community in discussions about drug addiction and recovery will foster a supportive environment.
5. Parental Involvement:- Educating parents on identifying early signs of drug abuse and fostering open communication at home.
During the event, the Principal of the college, Er. Mahmood Ahmad, shared his valuable experiences, advising students on how to stay away from drug addiction. Other faculty members who attended included Er. Arun Singh, Er. Vikas Sharma, Er.Anuj Kumar,Er.Dheeraj Shan, Er.Yasir Iqbal Er.

The Department of Electrical Engineering at Government Polytechnic College, Kishtwar, organized an insightful industrial visit to M/s Vijai Electricals, a renowned manufacturing unit, for the students of the 3rd semester.
The primary objective of the visit was to provide students with hands-on exposure to the practical aspects of Electrical Engineering and deepen their understanding of core concepts related to power transmission and distribution. During the tour, students were introduced to a wide array of equipment, including:
1. Transformers – The students explored the construction, working principles, and testing processes of different types of transformers.
2. Insulators – Detailed insights were provided into the role of insulators in electrical systems and their manufacturing process.
3. Poles and Conductors – Various types of poles and conductors used in power transmission were demonstrated, highlighting their specifications, uses, and safety considerations.
The technical team at M/s Vijai Electricals ensured that the students received a comprehensive explanation of the manufacturing and quality assurance processes. The visit also emphasized the importance of innovation and adherence to international standards in the field of electrical engineering.
The faculty members appreciated the proactive engagement of the students and the efforts of M/s Vijai Electricals in facilitating such an enriching experience. Er. Arun Singh remarked, “This visit bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and its practical application, equipping students with the skills needed for real-world challenges.”

The Civil Engineering Department of Govt Polytechnic College Kishtwar has successfully concluded its much-awaited Survey Camp 2024 under the esteemed leadership of Principal Er. Mehmood Ahmad. The camp, organized and supervised by Er. Harron Ahmad Waza, Er. Nasib Ul Islam, and Syed Rubaya, served as a practical learning platform for students to apply theoretical concepts to real-world surveying tasks.
The event, spanning several days, focused on equipping students with hands-on experience in key surveying techniques such as leveling, traversing, and topographic mapping. Advanced instruments like Total Stations, Auto Levels, and GPS devices were employed to ensure students gained exposure to the latest technologies in the field.
Speaking about the camp, Principal Er. Mehmood Ahmad remarked, “Such initiatives are vital in bridging the gap between classroom learning and field application. Our aim is to develop skilled professionals capable of tackling real-world challenges in civil engineering.”
The camp saw enthusiastic participation, with students working in teams to accomplish assigned tasks while learning teamwork, problem-solving, and technical precision. The organizing team, including Er. Harron Ahmad Waza, Er. Nasib Ul Islam, and ER Syed Rubaya, ensured seamless coordination and guidance throughout the camp.

Kishtwar – The Government Polytechnic College Kishtwar recently held a vibrant and memorable Freshers' Party at the GDC Auditorium, warmly welcoming the newest batch of students. Organized by senior students and faculty, the event celebrated the beginning of an exciting academic journey for the freshers, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie within the college.
The program kicked off with a welcome speech from the faculty of the college, who extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the newcomers. He encouraged students to make the most of the opportunities available and to contribute positively to both their personal growth and the college's reputation.
The event included a variety of entertainment and interactive segments, dance numbers, and a talent showcase that allowed new students to demonstrate their skills. Games, skits, and a fashion show brought an extra level of excitement to the celebration, and students showed enthusiastic participation throughout.
One of the highlights of the evening was the "Mr. and Ms. Fresher" contest, where the new students competed in different rounds that tested their confidence, creativity, and presentation skills. The winners were crowned by the faculty and were warmly cheered on by their peers.

Admissions to Govt. Polytechnic College are usually conducted in the month of May/June every year. The J&K Board of Technical Education (JKBOTE)
announces the application process through their portal: www.jksbotelive.com.
Eligibility: Minimum qualification is 10th pass with at least 35% marks. Admissions are based on merit, category/reservations, and preference. Seats are allotted in two rounds, and any left-over seats after the rounds are filled at the institution level in August every year.
For Lateral Entry into 2nd Year (3rd Semester), students with 10+2 (Non-Medical) or a 2-Year ITI diploma after 10th are eligible.

Merit-cum-Means Scholarship for Professional & Technical Courses: Students pursuing technical courses can receive up to ₹20,000 annually, plus a maintenance allowance. Apply via the NSP.
National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship: Awarded based on a national-level scholarship test, students can receive ₹12,000 per year. Applications can be submitted through the NSP.
PRAGATI Scholarship for Girls (Diploma Polytechnics): This scheme offers up to ₹50,000 annually for girl students pursuing diploma courses. Apply via the NSP.
SAKSHAM Scholarship for Specially Abled Students (Diploma Polytechnics): Specially abled students can receive up to ₹50,000 annually under this scheme. Applications can be submitted on the NSP.
Scholarship for Phari-Speaking Category: This scholarship is provided by the Department of Minority Affairs. Eligible students should apply through the relevant department portal.
